2020-2021 Membership Registration

Register

Welcome to Banook Canoe Club's 2020-2021 Membership Registration.  In this section you will choose the type of membership you are purchasing (family, individual, senior, etc).  You can also choose boat storage if needed, and under family membership you can choose to enroll children in our new Member Only Activity Camps (formerly child care), if needed.

After you have completed this section you must then go to the Paddling Program Registration to register paddlers in their programming.

This year, as a result of restrictions imposed on us by Nova Scotia Public Health, our registration process and our programming will look different than it has in previous years.  We hope that next year we can return to the programming and membership options you have enjoyed in the past.

The options you will find in this registration represent what we hope to be able to provide this year.  Our options may change as Provincial guidelines change.  If we are unable to offer an option for which you have registered and paid, you will receive a refund.

Running programs and keeping the Club open during this time and with the restrictions imposed comes at a cost.  We have less revenue (no rentals, for examples) and increased operating expenses relating to safety measures.  For this year we have eliminated the Volunteer fee but have had to replace it with a COVID-19 surcharge of $50 per individual membership and $100 per family membership.  This is necessary to be able to cover our expenses and keep the Club alive over the winter.

Once you have chosen your registration options you must select "PAY NOW" to complete your registration, even if you have chosen e-transfer as your method of payment.  If you do not get an email confirmation your registration is not complete.  If you do not get an email confirmation please contact banook@banookcanoeclub.com.

Thanks for your patience and support as we make our way through this unusual time.

UPDATE: the U12/U14 Program has reached maximum capacity.  To be placed on a waitlist please send a request to banook@banookcanoeclub.com.

Welcome to Banook Canoe Club's Fall Paddling Programs!

Despite many challenges, we had a great summer at Banook.  We are happy to be able to offer fall programming for our paddlers.  Due to ongoing constraints on our operations as a result of COVID-19 however, we will have to limit group numbers and we will have to stagger some of the group's training days.

As you proceed you will see there are 3 program options:

1) U12-U14  (birth years 2006-2009)

2) High Performance for those born 1996-2004 (HST will be added

3) High Performance for those born 2005 and younger (HST will not be added)

Please note that participation in the High Performance groups is by coach invitation only.

Please choose the group applicable to you and you will then find further information and instructions.

Happy paddling!

Fall Program

Register

Due to the uncertainty around Covid restrictions and what paddling will look like over the next months, VYPC will be running short sessions in the fall and winter rather than the usual six month program. Initially we run a seven week session from September 19-November 1.

Our programs are for youth 9 years old and up. Paddlers will learn water safety and correct stroke technique while developing strength, balance and co-ordination. Through a progressive learning model, paddlers learn the fundamentals in stable boats and move to more challenging boats as their skills develop. Practices are led by NCCP trained or certified coaches with a low paddler to coach ratio (typically 5:1). Paddlers can paddle once or twice per week. The cost is $140 once/week,  $225 twice/week.

Saturday 1:00-2:30pm

All ages - beginners will be introduced to a variety of boats and experienced paddlers can broaden their skills in different types of boats (e.g sprint kayak, outrigger, whitewater kayak, paddleboard, high kneel canoe).  One Saturday there will be a river paddling day and parental help with travel and logistics will be needed.

Sunday 1:00-2:30pm

Age 9-14 - youth will be introduced to a variety of boats  (e.g sprint kayak, outrigger, whitewater kayak, paddleboard, high kneel canoe).

Sunday 2:45-4:15pm

Paddlers with more than two years of experience or beginners 13 years and up will focus on skill development in outriggers (OC-1 and OC-6) and sprint kayaks.
