Due to the uncertainty around Covid restrictions and what paddling will look like over the next months, VYPC will be running short sessions in the fall and winter rather than the usual six month program. Initially we run a seven week session from September 19-November 1.
Our programs are for youth 9 years old and up. Paddlers will learn water safety and correct stroke technique while developing strength, balance and co-ordination. Through a progressive learning model, paddlers learn the fundamentals in stable boats and move to more challenging boats as their skills develop. Practices are led by NCCP trained or certified coaches with a low paddler to coach ratio (typically 5:1). Paddlers can paddle once or twice per week. The cost is $140 once/week, $225 twice/week.
All ages - beginners will be introduced to a variety of boats and experienced paddlers can broaden their skills in different types of boats (e.g sprint kayak, outrigger, whitewater kayak, paddleboard, high kneel canoe). One Saturday there will be a river paddling day and parental help with travel and logistics will be needed.
Age 9-14 - youth will be introduced to a variety of boats (e.g sprint kayak, outrigger, whitewater kayak, paddleboard, high kneel canoe).
Paddlers with more than two years of experience or beginners 13 years and up will focus on skill development in outriggers (OC-1 and OC-6) and sprint kayaks.
